Project description
Funded by the European Commission and the French Development Agency (AFD), this project is part of the Vietnamese authorities’ efforts to promote sustainable and resilient agricultural development in Tuan Giao, a mountainous district in Dien Bien province. Heavily dependent on agriculture, this area is particularly exposed to the effects of climate change and increasing pressures on water resources.
To strengthen the resilience of the area, the project plans to improve water infrastructure, from resource mobilization to distribution to farms. These investments aim to secure water supply, enhance network performance, and support local agricultural development.
Beyond the infrastructure, the project encourages the diversification of agricultural production through the development of perennial crops like macadamia and coffee. These plantations help improve vegetation cover on slopes, limit soil erosion, and reduce reliance on annual crops, which are particularly vulnerable to climate risks.
Services provided by SCP:
- Carrying out the preliminary studies necessary to define future hydraulic developments to secure water access for the Tuan Giao district.
- Designing hydrological models and technical concepts for the planned infrastructures and equipment.
- Providing advisory services and quality control of feasibility studies to ensure the consistency and relevance of the proposed investments within the framework of feasibility studies.
- Supporting project structuring and strengthening local stakeholders by defining an institutional and organizational roadmap.
- Conducting initial environmental and social assessments of the project, including gender equality issues, to ensure sustainable and inclusive development for local populations.
