Project Description
The Irrigated Agriculture Intensification Project in Tunisia (PIAIT) aims to strengthen the performance and attractiveness of the agricultural sector in several regions of the northwest of the country. Its goal is clear: to make irrigated agriculture a true driver of economic development within the governorates of Béja, Bizerte, Jendouba, and Siliana, as well as in the coastal areas of Sfax and Nabeul.
As part of this large-scale program, the SCP supports the Objective Management Unit (UGO) and the Regional Implementation and Monitoring Units (CRES) in managing, monitoring, and ensuring quality control of the rehabilitation and modernization of irrigation infrastructures. The mission covers the technical, administrative, and financial assistance needed to successfully carry out the work.
The goal is to modernize nearly 22,000 hectares of pressurized irrigation areas to improve network performance, optimize water use, and strengthen the resilience of farms against climate challenges. Thanks to its expertise in hydraulics and project management, SCP provides local project teams with the tools, methods, and skills needed to ensure the quality of services and the success of this major transformation benefiting farmers and regions.
Services provided:
- Management and coordination of the rehabilitation of 22,000 hectares of irrigated perimeters, in support of the project teams.
- Technical, administrative, and financial monitoring of operations, with quality control of studies and works.
- Ensuring the design and implementation of hydraulic infrastructures to guarantee their performance and sustainability.
- Development of management and mapping tools for irrigation networks to optimize the operation of the facilities.
- Integration of environmental, social, and energy considerations, including the feasibility study of a mini-hydroelectric plant in Sidi Ayed.
