Project Description
The Nouakchott drinking water supply project from the Senegal River was developed to meet the rapidly growing water needs of the Mauritanian capital and to reduce dependence on local groundwater resources, which are subject to a risk of overexploitation.
This major infrastructure aims to sustainably secure the drinking water supply of the urban area by utilizing a more abundant and more sustainable surface water resource. Demand forecasts result in a flow rate for the new supply system that could vary from 1.1 m³/s in 2010 to more than 2.6 m³/s in 2030.
Services provided:
- Management of feasibility and project design studies, including the analysis of water needs by 2030, updating existing studies, and evaluating different development options.
- Carrying out detailed technical studies of drinking water supply and production infrastructure, including the water intake from the Senegal River, pumping stations, transfer pipelines, storage facilities, and the treatment system.
- Diagnosis of existing installations, notably the Idini intake field and the Nouakchott drinking water supply network, to ensure their integration into the future system.
- Preparation of consultation and prequalification files for companies, with a view to carrying out the work.
- Preparation of the project's economic and financial analyses and support in selecting the most appropriate solutions.
- Assistance to the project owner in seeking financing, by preparing project presentation materials and participating in discussions with international funding agencies.
