Project description
The photovoltaic panel installation project over the Provence Canal in Saint-Maximin is part of the renewable energy development strategy led by the Société du Canal de Provence (SCP). The project aims to enhance the value of existing hydraulic infrastructure by combining solar power generation with the continued operation of water conveyance services, following a dual water-energy use approach.
The objective is to cover a section of the canal with photovoltaic panels, generating local renewable electricity without requiring additional land take, while preserving the continuity of water distribution services and reducing water losses caused by evaporation.
The Saint-Maximin demonstrator has an installed capacity of 299 kWp and is expected to generate approximately 404 MWh of renewable electricity per year, representing nearly 1% of SCP’s annual electricity consumption. This pilot project paves the way for the deployment of photovoltaic canal covers across SCP’s canal network.
Services provided:
- Feasibility studies and techno-economic design of the project for the implementation of a photovoltaic canal cover.
- Coordination of hydraulic, electrical, structural, and operational aspects of the project.
- Obtaining permits and supporting discussions with the relevant authorities.
- Tendering of construction works and evaluation of contractors’ proposals.
- Monitoring construction works and commissioning of the installation.
