At the heart of the
NEW HYDRAULIC
REVOLUTION
A project to balance water demand with resource availability
To strengthen regional resilience to climate change by improving the design, operation and management of complex networks of multi-purpose water infrastructure.
The project applies a systems approach combining hydraulic modelling, operational data, agricultural practices, energy optimisation and environmental engineering.
It is structured around three tools:
Real-time simulation and predictive modelling of the hydraulic network under different scenarios.
A platform comprising smart meters and advanced sensors to measure water pressure, quality and consumption via connected irrigation terminals.
Aggregation of spatial and temporal data from satellite imagery to monitor soil moisture, crop water stress, and irrigation usage and requirements across the entire territory.
The Three Pillars of Innovation with SCP
Making better use of infrastructure to preserve resources
- Development of tools to facilitate the safe operation and maintenance of structures.
- Integrating innovative solutions to protect wildlife within canals and reservoirs.
Adapting agriculture and regions to climate change
- Irrigation monitoring and advice to sectors (vineyards, almonds, pistachios) on the amount of water to bring to crops according to the season and different methods
- How can we manage forests and their development to preserve water resources?
- Promoting regenerative hydrology techniques and restoring the water cycle to adapt to climate change.
- Sustainable soil management: maximising soil water storage capacity by accurately assessing soil water retention (RU) using agro-hydro-pedological diagnostic tools.
Preserving water quality
- Anticipating and reducing turbidity in water networks through the modelling of suspended solids (SS).
- Monitoring and anticipating changes in water quality in the face of climate change through the combination of climate data, satellite data, in situ measurements, and hydrothermal and biogeochemical models.
