Project Description
In the heart of West Africa, the OMVG works towards coordinated and sustainable management of shared water resources in the river basins of the Gambia, Kayanga/Geba, and Koliba/Corubal rivers. To support territorial development while preserving exceptional ecosystems, the organization leads numerous structuring projects related to water, energy, and the environment.
In order to ensure fair and sustainable use of this precious resource, the OMVG has developed a Water Charter common to all the basins under its jurisdiction. As a true reference framework, this charter defines the rules for managing and protecting water resources, guides the assessment of new projects that may affect their quality or quantity, and promotes the participation of users in decision-making. It thus serves as an essential tool for reconciling economic development, environmental preservation, and cooperation among member states.
Services provided:
- Definition of the action plan for mission framing, in consultation with the OMVG and the Member States (Senegal, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau).
- Technical analysis of the PDDI and national regulatory frameworks, to ensure the consistency of the Charter with existing water management policies.
- Assessment of the balance between available resources and water needs, identifying the constraints and issues related to the various uses of the resource.
- Preparation and facilitation of intermediate consultation and validation workshops.
