Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole (PMM) is facing increasing pressure on water resources, resulting from the multiplication of drought episodes, the decrease in local availability, and the effects of climate change. These challenges are heightened by the significance of agricultural needs and by strong seasonal population variations, which increase water demand during the most critical periods.
In this context, PMM has initiated a treated wastewater reuse (TWR) approach to diversify the available resources and strengthen the resilience of its territory against water stress. The project focuses on the valorization of treated water from the treatment plants of Perpignan and Canet-en-Roussillon, with the objective of reducing withdrawals from surface and groundwater resources while securing their usage.
Services provided by SCP:
- Identification and prioritization of opportunities for the reuse of treated wastewater (REUT), through the analysis of potential uses and the development of valorization scenarios.
- Assessment of the water needs of different users within the territory to size the most appropriate solutions.
- Conducting feasibility studies and multi-criteria analyses.
- Support in the implementation of water-saving actions and the mobilization of alternative resources, notably non-conventional waters.
- Facilitation of consultation with territorial stakeholders, promoting the co-construction of solutions through consultation meetings.
