Project description
The aim of the feasibility, conceptual and detailed preliminary design studies, which are part of the project to strengthen eco-system resilience in the Ferlo region (PREFERLO), is to design a technically and economically viable solution for the pressurised transfer of raw water from the Guiers lake for almost 230 km.
In the long term, this structure aims to provide:
- A raw water supply for towns and villages in the Ferlo valley, capable of satisfying demand for drinking water
- The development of agriculture in the valley, in order to contribute to the country’s cereal production (‘cereal corridor’)
- Water for livestock
- An improvement in living conditions for populations within the project’s reach
- More efficient usage of water resources in the Senegal river (improving water releases from the Diama dam)
- An improvement in water quality for the Guiers lake
- Support for eco-systems in the Ferlo valley
Services provided:
- Co-ordination of partners
- Initial studies and assessments regarding soil, agricultural water needs and energy use
-
Technical and economic studies:
- Definition of development scenarios
- Selection of the most relevant scenario by means of multi-criteria
- For the most relevant scenario: technical design and costing at the detailed preliminary design level, institutional and legal analysis, study of management methods, economic models, and tariff recommendation
