Since its commissioning in 1971, this dam – 36.6m wide and 7m high overflow – has suffered considerable damage and successive reinforcement works have been carried out. In spite of these costly works, which faced particularly challenging access conditions, both the dam and counter-dam remained in very poor condition.
Following a comprehensive analysis by SCP, which demonstrated that the profile of the weirs was not appropriate for the river’s hydraulic characteristics, SAPHIR launched a global refurbishment and reinforcement programme costing €10M.
The SCP/SECMO consortium is responsible for the full project management of all structures concerned:
- Modification of the hydraulic profile
- Reinforcement of the flow area
- Reinforcement of cut-off walls and protection of foundations
- Relocation and modification of the fish pass
- Installation of anti-bird devices, and improvement of sub-fluvial offtake drain upstream from the main dam
